Marino Rocks & cross quilt

Finally a photograph that gives a little more realistic view of the lovely soft hues of the naturally dyed fabrics in the quilt.  I probably shouldn't have put up the photographs the other night when they were taken in such poor light.. I've just put up a few this time.

I liked this photograph below just because a dad and his child were in the background - kind of a reflection of use..

The photos were taken at Marino Rocks - an area of glacial rocks

And a few pics from the local community hall at Marino which has a very large mural painted across the expanse of the building

5 boiling hot days

3 days off from work and all spent under the air conditioner

Pardon the language - but it was Bloody hot!

Adelaide / South Australia is now officially one of the hottest places on earth

Urrghh!

But the up side is I have spent most of my time quilting the baby quilt which had to be finished Sunday for the baby shower... tick 

I have only just this instance finished the binding and as I did so the cool change has blown in.

What a blessing. hallelujah! 

As you see I have snapped photos at the light is dimming but even if I had finished earlier I would have avoided going out in the 40 degree plus heat
So tomorrow I might attempt some decent shots, but this will do for now.

 For the binding I used the reversed side of the material to get more muted tones to match the natural soft tones of the hand dyed materials.
My quilting is a bit neh! But it was speed quilted... overall I'm pretty happy with it.

 What a relief  - cool weather and a finished quilt!

Cross Quilt - finally working on it!

Remember my naturally dyed materials that I made months ago? Made from fennel, acorn, eucalyptus and berry dyes...No

Well I had almost forgotten about it too! I was reminded that it was hidden away when I received an invite to a baby shower for the intended recipient. OOps! At least the top is made. 

I've started quilting last Sunday  when invited to a girlfriends house for what she labelled a quilting bonanza. Her idea, and a lovely one was to get a group of friends together to sew and at the same time to motivate her to get started on a quilt she had been wanting to do for some time. It was a lovely afternoon mixing with some old and new friends  .. and I finally got started on the quilting of this little cot quilt.

Ive decided to quilt stars on alternate blocks - that will make it a little quicker to do and then it will be ready for when the baby is born (but not ready for the baby shower)

Not much will be done in the coming days as we are heading for a heat wave . I'm not looking forward to it five days of temperatures above 40 degrees. I cant wait to sit in my car and swelter on the way home from work or to swelter at work each time I have to wear a yellow plastic gown when attending patients that are being barrier nursed. Its like having an instant sauna and sweat fest in my clothes.

So much to look forward to!
Maybe I'll lose a couple of kilos in water.
Anyway I will be heading to the beach to cool down when the sun isn't too high in the sky - got to mind those UV rays and I personally don't enjoy frying to a crisp.

Sun and Surf Crochet bag

                     
I have finished my sun and surf crochet bag. It has been a slow plod, mainly because I am really tired.
I have finally finished full time work and am back to my three days a week. Perhaps with the slightly slowed pace I might become a little more human again.
Its hard to find a rhythm that is comfortable when you work all week, come home and cook and occasionally clean to keep some semblance of normality in your life. Certainly the crafty me type things get put to the wayside. At least at the moment the daylight hours are long and there is opportunity to get out and walk after all the chores are done.

Although I dont like the colours I'm not to unhappy with the bag itself.. seeing as I made it up without a pattern.

I read The Book Thief over the last week, snatched a few moments on break at work and before going to sleep. Really enjoyed it and the perspective of  death looking at us in terms of colour.
I will be going to the movie in the coming weeks... I think it is released this week in Australia.

Any hoo... have a great and relaxing week.. dont work too hard.

Old Year , New Year

Year ending and the weather has gone crazy. One day a blustery and windy day but still warm enough to swim in white capped seas Well at least we did!
Then hot sweltering conditions to see out the year and for once a calm in the skies so that the New years Eve fireworks sparkled to their full glorious potential

And the first day of 2014 warm and sultry with rain and 84% humidity - absolutely crazy weather but still a beautiful day to see in the new year with two gorgeous girls , my sister and her daughter down at Brighton beach. The same jetty that the fireworks were held last night.
