Mid South Coast- SouthPort and The Onkaparinga River

Today Jordy requested to go surfing originally  to the South coast but plans change with the change in surf conditions, so we headed to the mid south coast to one of my favourite areas to visit.

So whilst she surfed I snapped a hundred shots on my phone (or what seemed like it) and then followed the river down to visit the wildlife.

Where the river meets the sea (surfing to the left and right of the river)

Red sand stone cliff faces

Unuasal rocky out crops eroded by the ocean

The shadow of the rock below looks a bit like an angel fish.

I love the light reflection patterning in the water.

Further down the river but still within walking distance of the beach , shallow waders in the wetlands.

Black swans found all along the river

Pelicans again- I can't help myself

Not sure what this little fella is called

If you look closely you can see pelicans flying in the tree line (and someone sitting in the trees fishing on the opposite shore)

Thats it , you made it! I think I'm done with nature shots for a wee while - although there is a group of galahs and white cockatoos that have been screeching around the neighbourhood this evening...might have to go and investigate.

Pelicans On The Pat (take 2)

I've Been back to the Patawalonga River to visit these finely feathered creatures. I dropped Jordana off at school and kept travelling to the river near the airport. I was graced with presence of about five pelicans, three of which were within close proximity of the walking path. The numbers weren't as significant as my last visit look here but I was armed with a better camera . For once I came prepared and didn't have to make do with my phone camera.

These two guys basically didn't move from the spot they occupied the whole time I spent visiting. I'm sure if I had some fish heads I would have attracted some attention.

The cormorants were in their usual spot

I love the reflections in the water and the little duck sidling up to the two big guys

Just to break the monotony - a bull reed adds a splash of colour to all the grey.

I do love the yellow of the pelicans eyes, the dude below looks most serious. He actually became most fervent about cleaning up his appearance and really had a good dig under his arm pit. His side of the pond must be a bit stinky  to warrant such detailed and acrobatic attention to his hygiene!

Yep we are still standing here! Are you quite finished with all that preening?

Finally a bit of movement. Just a little. The guy on the left is scanning the water for delectable titbits and actually attempts  a plunge into the water with his head

Nope - no luck. Back to sitting and waiting

Fine Feathered Friends

 Out the front yard tonight, the ususal crowd scrabbling for dinner. Noisy , messy things they are! These screechy little rascals make a real racous noise and skit from tree to tree in no time flat. I took over an hour (playing in the traffic whilst I was standing out on the road) to capture these guys. I took lots of photos of half a bird..no sooner had you gained focus and they would move onto the next branch or tree. I really would love to get a shot of on of them in flight - coming in for a landing - they really look quite spectacular. Anyway I have culled the photos down (I could have added more) but you can get too much of a good thing. I love this first photo because these guys look so chummy....whispering sweet nothings into each others ear! Anyway enjoy my colourful friends and the trees they play in.
