Tapestry Pillows and a few birds

Yesterday I riffled through my cupboard and decided it was time to sew up these little beauties. The 3 tapestries have been hiding for some years, purchased in an op shop and tossed aside for another day. Well finally that day has come. I bought them attached by staples to a piece of cardboard with the barest of margins to spare for sewing. Out comes the overlocker to trim up the very frayed edges and then a selection of four cream prints for a patchworked border. The backing is linen with only a 13cm zip...big enough to get a hand through to stuff the cushion with fibre fill.  I then proceeded to blanket stitch around the edge...many hours later a crochet border began. I love the coral pink colour of the cotton. A finish of all three just before the sun hides it head for another day. The light always appears strong and throws tall shadows when the sun begins to hang his hat up for the evening.

Winter has been kind to the weeds, they make a magnificent display on the hillside

  1. The yellow field flowers are called "koolzaad" in Dutch.
I look the translation up in the dictionary and apparently it is "colza" in English. So you guys stole that word from us, now, did you? (for once the other way round)

I absolutely adore every cushion. They are gorgeous, especially in the flowerbeds you displayed them. I can tell from those pictures that you loved taking them and enjoyed the whole thing. That way your love jumps out of my screen as well.

The coloured birds (papegaaien) never stop to amaze me, I cannot imagine they are just flying in the wild . Here in Belgium we only have got them in the zoo and some people keep them in cages in their homes.
My daughter and I have been laughing our head off with this bird who thinks he is Bond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn8af_sWB8s

  2. Wow! Amazing tapestries! And I love the pillows you've made of them. Thanks for the beautiful pics too; it's good to see all the lovely flowers. Over here (the Netherlands) summer seems almost over.

    1. Hi Sandra, I cant remember if I replied to you from my phone ( I have a feeling I did) but it never shows up on my feed from my computer...anyway thanks for dropping by and glad to bring a little sunshine your way. I think that we will end up having a long hot summer this year as Spring has come bounding in with full sun and little rain. (probably not a good thing for the driest state in the driest continent ) I am always off photographing the native flora and fauna , drop by again or have a flick back through the last couple of months for birds etc. Cheers Monique

    1. Thanks for stopping by and visiting. I often buy goods in op shops with intention of doing something and then the best laid plans go dormant for a while. Sometimes I just dont have a concrete plan of what to do , so it is nice to actually utilise something so beautiful finally. I never understand why so many people do wool tapestries and then never do anything with the finished picture..maybe it is addictive just doing the tapestry. Thanks again. Cheers Monique

  6. love the bird!! our birds that would be considered bright would be a cardinal and maybe a blue jay. Oh wait, oriole but those you rarely see. Love what you did with those crossstitch squares, why would someone not finish them?? maybe they couldn't afford to frame them. I like what you did with them, pillows are handy!!
